Welcome to the story of my extraordinary adventure to Australia in 2014! This trip of a lifetime was filled with family reunions, delightful experiences, and unforgettable moments that I am thrilled to share with you.
Arrival and Warm Welcome
Our journey began in Sydney, where we landed before taking a short flight to Brisbane, just 917 km (569.8 miles) away. Although it doesn’t seem far on a map, the excitement of traveling across Australia was palpable. Upon our arrival in Brisbane, we were greeted in true Samoan fashion with candy leis, setting a warm and festive tone for our visit.
Exploring Cleveland, Queensland
Our first destination was Cleveland, Queensland, where we enjoyed a fantastic lunch on the patio at Fish on Fire. The fresh seafood and relaxing atmosphere made it a memorable meal. Afterward, we took a leisurely stroll to the wharf, soaking in the beautiful coastal views.
One interesting stop in Cleveland was a visit to Woolworths. Unlike its namesake stores in the U.S., this Woolworths was quite different. To my surprise, cigarettes were sold in packs of 40 with shocking photos on the outer package, costing over $40 USD – a stark contrast to what I’m used to!
Chilly Yet Charming Gold Coast
Next, we headed to the Gold Coast. Despite it being July and winter in Australia, the beaches were pristine and beautifully illuminated at night. The cold weather didn’t dampen our spirits as we admired the stunning coastline and enjoyed the unique charm of this renowned destination.
Discovering Brisbane
Our exploration continued in the city center of Brisbane, where we marveled at the blend of old and new architecture. One particular highlight was Little Stanley in Southbank, which reminded me of New Orleans with its beautiful wrought iron balconies. This area was vibrant and full of life, offering a unique blend of cultural influences.
Sweet Delights at Max Brenner
A visit to Brisbane wouldn’t be complete without stopping by the world-renowned chocolatier, Max Brenner. Indulging in and purchasing their delectable and beautifully crafted chocolate offerings was a true highlight. The rich flavors and artistic presentation made for an unforgettable chocolate experience.
